Abstract
Many children and pre-teens in the United States are exposed to entertainment platforms on a daily basis. Television, video and computer games, together with the internet are the main sources of entertainment available and accessible to children. There are a number of negative effects associated with the modern forms of entertainment to children, some of which may affect the health, behavior and character of the child. However, here are few benefits of modern entertainment, when used correctly. Entertainment forms may be used a source of information to children which will in turn help boost their academic performance.it is therefore important to research on the negative impacts brought about by entertainment in order to ensure children and pre-teens are safe from these negative effects.

Impact of Entertainment on Children
INTRODUCTION
Children and pre-teens enjoy doing what they love for entertainment when they are free. Watching television and movies, playing video games and interacting with others on social media are among the most popular ways children in the United States entertain themselves (Dixon, 2015).. These forms of entertainment contribute to shaping children in positive and negative ways Today’s generation of children and pre-teens grow getting immersed into the media since that’s where their source of entertainment is from (Fiese, 2008).
There are platforms that allow kids to consume and create content, streaming television and movies, sedentary and video games, social and interaction platforms that engage children during their free time as a source of entertainment. This wide range of entertainment might be overwhelming at times and if overused and used wrongly, it might bring more harm than good to the child (Grossman, 2009).
Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying refers to deliberately hurting, embarrassing or harassing someone deliberately sing digital technology.it happens by text message, email or through social media sites like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube among others. Sending messages that threaten others, stalking others, spreading false statements and rumors online, posting embarrassing picture and harassing others in online games are some of the examples of cyberbullying. Children with mental health impairment and disabilities are more vulnerable to cyberbullying (Hamm, 2015). Children and pre-teens who experience cyberbullying often end up being bullied in school.it lowers children’s esteem and make them less interested in school and as a result there academic performance goes down. Most children tend to isolate themselves from others and remain lonely locking themselves in their rooms. Cyberbullying might lead to mental problems like depression, stress, anxiety and in extreme cases the child is likely to develop suicidal thoughts. Some cyberbullying victims feel insecure everywhere they are (Didden, 2009).
Health Effects
There are devastating health effects associated with the modern forms of entertainment that involve use of technology and digital devices. The modern world is much faster than it used to be in the past and therefore from entertainment to learning programs at school have changed. Children’s attention span has been reduced since they don’t take much time to learn and entertainment materials are always at their disposal. Obesity is higher today due to too much use of technological forms of entertainment (Ogden, 2012). Video games and social media interaction sites do not provide chance for physical exercise of the children.as a result, the children become less active and gain excess weight. More children have been diagnosed of ADHD. Children no longer observe the four critical factors needed to attain good health, these include touch, exposure to nature, movement and human connection. If the elements are not adhered to, the child will unfortunately have health problems and unsustainable life (Lifshitz, 2006).
Immorality
The internet is now the world’s largest source of information, replacing even the largest libraries in the world. The amount of information is so diverse and anyone can access any information regardless of the age. The internet carries a great potential for misuse by children and pre-teen who surf the internet as a means for entertaining themselves (Pollard-Sacks, 2011). Pornography is widely available to any child regardless of the age, this promotes immorality among the children because they might get tempted to practice what they watch. Even more alarming are the many hate-groups websites, some ae specifically created for children. A number of songs references to drugs and praise the good effects of these drugs, when children listen to these songs their life choices is likely to be affected (The Entertainment Industry’s Effect on Children, 2010)
Behavioral Effects
Since the advent of television, its effects have been seen, however it has really impacted on the behavior of children. Studies have proved that because of watching violence in television. Children are likely to become less sensitive suffering and deeds, other children may become fearful because of violence and terrorism attacks aired on television. In extreme cases, other children are likely to be more aggressive and harmful towards others (Anderson, 2007). Televisions display 812 violent scenes in every hour on a daily basis. A typical American child will watch more than 200, 000 acts of violence together with 16,000 murder cases as they attain 18 years. Video games with violent content are connected to aggressive behavior in children and pre-teens. Most of the popular video games contain violent acts (Groves, C, ; Anderson, 2016).
Source of Information
Despite the many negative effects associated with entertainment, the industry has tremendous positive effect in American society. Television can educate children on life lessons and culture. News and historical programming help make young people aware of their culture and that of other people (Hale, 2015). Source of information from entertainment media give children opportunity to practice skills, create illustrations, solve problems and expand their knowledge base. Pre-teens use the internet to practice how to send email, access information from internet together with their classwork information (Bryan, 2014).
Conclusion
Despite the modern forms of entertainment being useful, there are a number of its negative side-effects when overused. Some of these negative effects include, cyberbullying which results into depression and on the extreme suicidal thoughts. There are a number of health issues associates with misuse of video games and other entertainment forms that do not engage the physical body of the child. Spread of immorality via the internet also affects many children, the child’s behavior might also be affected. However, the forms of entertainment are also sources of information for many children who use the platforms for learning.
